Project Description

The hardest part of painting a fire station is that it cannot stop being a fire station. This fire station painting project repainted Station 13 for the Renton Regional Fire Authority in Renton, WA while the station stayed in service and firefighters kept responding to calls.

The work covered the full exterior along with interior walls and the metal rails and door trim inside the station. Both were coated in Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint, chosen for a public building where surfaces take constant contact. On a facility used around the clock, the finish has to hold up to traffic that never really stops.

This commercial painting contract ran one month and was performed as a prevailing wage government project. That designation carries certified payroll and compliance requirements that go well beyond a standard commercial job. Meeting them is part of what a public agency is actually buying.

Background Story:

A fire station cannot close for a repaint. Emergency response continues on its own schedule, and no coating job outranks a call going out the door.

Our painters worked directly with station personnel to sequence the work around that reality. Apparatus bays and exits stayed clear, work areas were staged so equipment access was never blocked, and daily plans were adjusted around shift changes and active response.

On a public facility, disruption is the real risk, not the paint. Proving that the work could be done without interfering with emergency operations is what made the difference on this contract.

Scope of Services:

  • Full Exterior Repaint: The entire exterior of the station was repainted for a durable, uniform finish.
  • Interior Wall Painting: Interior walls were repainted throughout the occupied station.
  • Metal Rails and Door Trim: Metal rails and door trim were coated to hold up to constant contact and heavy use.
  • Operational Coordination: Scheduling was coordinated with station personnel so emergency operations continued uninterrupted.
  • Prevailing Wage Compliance: The project was completed under prevailing wage requirements for public agency work.

Paint Products Used:

  • Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint Exterior
  • Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint Interior

Results:

Station 13 came out of the project with a durable finish inside and out, and it never left service during the month of work. Firefighters responded to calls from the same building the entire time.

The clearest measure of the result is what happened next. The Renton Regional Fire Authority awarded us work at five additional fire stations, which is the kind of verdict no marketing claim can substitute for.

If you manage a public facility, a municipal building, or any property that cannot shut down for a repaint, the schedule matters as much as the finish. Ask any contractor how they plan to work around your operations before you ask about the paint.
